7 Wasted Marvel Villains The MCU Still Has Time To Fix

Marvel Studios can still give various MCU villains another chance after their underwhelming first appearances. Although the Marvel Cinematic Universe has introduced a wide variety of popular villains, it has also introduced several antagonists who haven't lived up to expectations. For every Thanos that influences the entire franchise, there's a Malekith who doesn't make a dent in the MCU's story; and for every Loki that earns his own Disney+ series, there's a Kro that falls into oblivion as soon as his movie ends. Still, all MCU characters have a chance to return after their journey has seemingly come to a definitive end.
The MCU has already brought back villains who have had controversial introductions or otherwise have failed to capture audiences. For instance, Avengers: Endgame brought back Red Skull, who was absent since 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger, and transformed him into a crucial character in the form of the Soul Stone's guardian. Likewise, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings featured Ben Kinglsey's Trevor Slattery after his controversial debut in Iron Man 3, and She-Hulk: Attorney At Law reintroduced Tim Roth's Abomination over ten years after his main antagonist role in The Incredible Hulk. The MCU can continue this trend with other villains in the near future.
7 Kaecilius Mads Mikkelsen's Kaecilius made quite an impression in Doctor Strange's opening sequence, where he beheaded a Kamar Taj student. However, the sorcerer spent the rest of the movie serving as an emotionless lackey for Dormammu, which didn't allow Mikkelsen to show off his acting skills. Given that Dormammu took Kaecilius to the Dark Dimension, it's possible for a future movie to bring him back. When Doctor Strange and Clea travel to the Dark Dimension in a possible Doctor Strange 3, they could find out that Dormammu has taken Kaecilius' body as a human vessel. This would give Mads Mikkelsen the possibility to portray a much more threatening villain.
6 Yon Rogg Another A-list actor who played a rather unremarkable one-off villain is Jude Law, who portrayed the Kree commander Yon-Rogg in 2019's Captain Marvel. Yon-Rogg spends most of Carol Danvers' debut movie offscreen, and his villain twist was made obvious early on in the film. After Captain Marvel confronted him, she decided to spare his life, strapping him into his own spacecraft and sending him back to the Supreme Intelligence. This means that Yon-Rogg is still alive somewhere during the Multiverse Saga and that he could return in The Marvels, where he could exact revenge on Carol Danvers and take his rage out on her new allies, Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan.
5 Taskmaster Taskmaster's MCU debut in Black Widow failed on two fronts: it lacked the character's signature Deadpool-like humor and charismatic personality, and it missed the opportunity to reinvent the villain with Olga Kurylenko's serious performance. But after her monotonous MCU introduction, Taskmaster's return in the ensemble cast of Marvel's Thunderbolts could revamp the character and give her a unique personality that properly bounces off the rest of the anti-hero team. Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, US Agent, and Ghost can help Taskmaster build her identity from the ground up and become a memorable MCU character with a strong future in the franchise, either as an anti-hero or a full-fledged superhero.
4 Bullseye Wilson Bethel delivered a terrifying performance as Benjamin "Dex" Poindexter in Netflix's Daredevil season 3, where he impersonated Daredevil and almost ruined Matt Murdock's life. However, Poindexter's antagonist role was ultimately overshadowed by Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin, who quickly dispatched Poindexter by breaking his back during his final battle with Daredevil. Fortunately, the MCU's integration of Marvel's Netflix shows suggests a payoff to the Daredevil season 3 ending, which teased Poindexter's transformation into the iconic Marvel villain Bullseye. Therefore, Wilson Bethel's Bullseye could return more dangerous than ever before in Daredevil: Born Again, Echo, Thunderbolts, or any other upcoming street-level MCU release.
3 Jigsaw Another villain from Marvel's Netflix shows who didn't meet his full potential is Billy Russo, a.k.a. Jigsaw, The Punisher's friend-turned-enemy who betrayed Frank Castle. Despite going through the event that famously disfigures his face in the comics, Ben Barnes' version of the character only came back with some scratches on his face, and his goal to destroy Frank Castle's life was quickly thwarted by The Punisher himself. Given that Marvel Studios can recast and retcon Marvel's Netflix shows, Jigsaw could be brought back to life as a more menacing villain for Jon Bernthal's returning The Punisher, and he could join forces with other street-level villains such as Kingpin and Bullseye.
2 Shocker The Shocker was one of the Spider-Man villains introduced in Spider-Man: Homecoming. After the Vulture accidentally killed his colleague Jackson Brice, the criminal Herman Schultz took up Crossbones' modified gauntlets and hunted down Spider-Man. However, Ned Leeds and Spider-Man were able to stop him and made him lose his weapon. The Shocker is a member of Spider-Man's rogue gallery in the comics, and although not a particularly famous one, he is definitely a powerful threat that Spider-Man has struggled with throughout the years. Tom Holland's next MCU appearance as Spider-Man could bring back The Shocker, who could wish to exact revenge with a more powerful version of his signature weapon.
