Secret Invasion Update May Kill A Popular Returning MCU Character Theory

Secret Invasion theories that Daisy Johnson a.k.a. Quake will return might be debunked by the latest update on the show. The Disney+ series starring Nick Fury and Talos is loosely based on the epic comic crossover of the same name. While the comic series ultimately included just about every major Marvel superhero as part of the Skrulls' invasion plot, Secret Invasion is bringing a smaller scale to the conflict. It will still include plenty of known characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, such as Maria Hill and Everett Ross. However, James Rhodes is currently the only superhero confirmed to be part of the series.
One of the biggest topics of speculation concerning Secret Invasion is that Chloe Bennet will return as Quake in the show. The actress played Daisy Johnson for all seven seasons of Agents of SHIELD and turned herself into a fan-favorite character and de-facto lead character at times. She has not been seen again since the show ended in 2020, and the idea of her returning has been heavily debated due to differing opinions about if Agents of SHIELD is MCU canon. This would certainly be confirmed through Chloe Bennet's Quake appearing in Secret Invasion, but these theories might be debunked by a new update.
No One With Superpowers In Secret Invasion Suggests Quake Won't Return The idea that Quake will return in Secret Invasion becomes more difficult to comprehend based on a new reveal about the series provided by Samuel L. Jackson. The MCU veteran talked to Empire about why Secret Invasion has no Avengers helping Fury out. The direct quote was, "He's trying to solve a problem without people who have superpowers... There's a very good explanation for that." This implies that people with superpowers, like the Avengers, could be counterproductive to defeating the Skrulls, possibly because they are creating Super Skrulls and copying other heroes' powers.
If Fury is purposefully trying to stop the Skrulls' takeover plot without the aid of people with superpowers, Quake cannot return. She is firmly established as having superpowers in Agents of SHIELD. Her not having them in Secret Invasion could be explained as a way to establish that this Daisy Johnson is a variant, confirming that Agents of SHIELD at least partially takes place in another universe. Still, Nick Fury's no Avengers directive in the Disney+ show makes it much tougher for Quake to appear. Doing so would contradict this mission and create more questions about why the Avengers and other superheroes are not aiding Fury.
Why Quake Should Still Return In Secret Invasion Quake's MCU return in Secret Invasion should still happen even if it does not totally line up with the no superpowers motto Fury might be operating with. Daisy Johnson is a perfect fit for an espionage-style show like Secret Invasion after being part of SHIELD for so long. The series is already bringing back multiple characters tied to the secret intelligence and spy section of the MCU. This even includes introducing a few new ones. Daisy Johnson's experience working as a spy and saving the world from massive threats would make her a great ally in the fight against the Skrulls.
Seeing Quake again in Secret Invasion could also go a long way in establishing her as a character that Nick Fury greatly trusts. With so much uncertainty surrounding who is and who is not a Skrull in hiding, Fury should only be working with people he trusts the most. Daisy Johnson could be someone who spent years working for Fury and building great trust between them. She might even have spent time with him in space and the Skrulls. Furthermore, it might be smart of Fury to bring in some lesser-known superheroes to the general public and the Skrulls to back him up in any fights.
Where Else Quake Could Return In The MCU Whether Quake returns in Secret Invasion or not, there are other places Daisy Johnson can be seen again. Her appearance in the Disney+ show would make a cameo in The Marvels possible considering how closely the two MCU projects are connected. Otherwise, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars hold potential for where Quake will appear next. There is also a chance that Shang-Chi 2 will be part of the plan for Chloe Bennet's character, paying off the teases of her and star Simu Liu hanging out together.
Looking further down the road in the MCU's future, Quake's MCU return could also occur in a variety of rumored projects. She could play the lead role in a Secret Warriors show that focuses on Nick Fury leading a group of super spies. Agents of Atlas is another potential place where Daisy Johnson could be featured, as the possible Disney+ series could pair her up with other notable Asian Marvel heroes. All this could still happen even if Quake's Secret Invasion return theories have been debunked, but they would be more directly set up potentially if she does still appear.
