MCU Theory Reveals 1 Major Plot For Deadpool 3

Deadpool 3 could be the biggest X-Men film yet if one major MCU theory turns out to be true. After the huge success of 2016's Deadpool and its sequel in Fox's X-Men franchise, it was inevitable that Ryan Reynolds would join the MCU following Disney's 2019 acquisition of Fox. Reynolds' confirmed Deadpool 3's development in December 2019, and the film was officially announced to be part of the MCU by Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige in 2021. Several actors will be reprising their roles from Fox's Deadpool franchise for the Phase 6 film, including Reynolds, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Morena Baccarin, Karan Soni, Leslie Uggams, and Stefan Kapičić.
The fact that Deadpool and Wolverine will be crossing over into the MCU from Fox's X-Men franchise implies that Deadpool 3 will be a multiversal adventure along the lines of Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, while Wade Wilson's hilarious antics will make Deadpool 3 an entertaining ride regardless, the Phase 6 film will need to find clear connections to the wider world of the MCU, particularly as it is scheduled for release in the lead-up to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. These connections could be easily made with the debut of one major X-Men villain from Marvel Comics.
Patrick Stewart & Ian McKellen Might Be Returning In Deadpool 3 Since Deadpool 3 was confirmed for the MCU's Phase 6, speculation has been stirring about which characters from Fox's X-Men franchise would join the Merc with a Mouth in Marvel Studios' shared universe. Hugh Jackman was revealed to be reprising his iconic role of James "Logan" Howlett, a.k.a. Wolverine, for Deadpool 3, which could finally pay off years of Deadpool's Hugh Jackman jokes, but many believe that other prominent characters from X-Men will appear too. This includes Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, who debuted as Professor X and Magneto in 2000's X-Men, and their involvement has already been teased by the former.
Speaking to Comicbook.com, Stewart revealed that he had been "told to standby" regarding a potential role in Deadpool 3 and later teased that he and McKellen are "not done," suggesting Deadpool 3 could mark a reunion for the pair. Stewart appeared as a variant of Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but Deadpool 3 could see him and McKellen reprise their original X-Men roles for one last adventure. If this does turn out to be the case, one theory from Reddit user Identity_X suggests one massive Marvel Comics storyline could be adapted for Deadpool 3, giving Professor X and Magneto the perfect send-off in the MCU.
Who Is Onslaught? Potential Deadpool 3 Character Explained The Reddit theory poses that Professor X and Magneto's involvement in Deadpool 3 could introduce Onslaught to the MCU, a major X-Men villain that hasn't yet been seen in live-action. In Marvel Comics, Onslaught debuted in 1996's X-Men Vol. 2 #15, introduced as a psionic entity formed from the consciousnesses of Professor X and Magneto, which combined after a battle between the pair ended with Xavier entering Magneto's mind, and Magneto corrupted Xavier's subconscious, forming a darker entity that grew into its own separate persona. Using Charles Xavier's body, Onslaught set out to "unify" humans and mutants by cultivating fear for both species.
Onslaught had run-ins with the likes of Juggernaut, Storm, Cyclops, Wolverine, Iceman, and Jean Grey, manipulating them and putting them in mortal peril before revealing his true identity to the X-Men. Onslaught's combination of Magneto's hatred for humanity and Xavier's repressed anger at the world created a formidable villain with the power to wipe memories, manipulate reality, and even absorb other mutants. If Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are set to return to the world of superhero movies for Deadpool 3, them unwittingly combining their psyches to form Onslaught would be an epic storyline to tell and could even allow already-established MCU characters to make appearances in the film.
Onslaught Can Make Deadpool 3 A Huge Crossover Film During 1996's Onslaught storyline in Marvel Comics, the threat of Onslaught becomes so massive that some of Earth's other heroes get involved in taking down the super-powerful villain. In the story's epic conclusion, the X-Men join forces with the Avengers and the Fantastic Four to battle Onslaught in his Central Park citadel, formed with a wall of Onslaught-controlled Sentinels. In an effort to save captured members of their teams, Earth's Mightiest Heroes put up a fair fight against Onslaught. The Hulk tore apart the villain's armor, leaving him a being made from pure energy, which Thor disrupted, creating a rift that the other non-mutant heroes entered.
After Earth's heroes entered Onslaught's rift, the villain was destroyed from within, but seemingly so were the Avengers and the Fantastic Four. However, it was later revealed that Reed Richards' son Franklin had created a pocket universe for the heroes to reside in until they found a way home. This storyline would fit perfectly in the MCU's Multiverse Saga, specifically because of the pocket reality created by Franklin, and the fact that so many heroes were involved in this storyline in Marvel Comics, could hint at Deadpool 3 being a crossover film in the MCU, which would create much-needed connections to the wider MCU.
Deadpool 3 Can Set Up Fantastic Four With Onslaught The fact that Franklin Richards is one of Onslaught's prisoners means that Deadpool 3 could lay the groundwork for the MCU's Fantastic Four, which is currently scheduled for release only three months after Deadpool 3. Reed Richards was the first member of the Fantastic Four to be introduced to the MCU, as a variant of Mister Fantastic was portrayed by John Krasinski in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. During his MCU debut, Krasinski's Reed Richards confirmed that his children had already been born, implying these to be Franklin and Valeria Richards from Marvel Comics, so this could also be the case in the MCU's main continuity.
Marvel Comics released a five-issue limited series in 2006 titled Onslaught Reborn to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Onslaught storyline, during which the villain returned following the Scarlet Witch's infamous uttering of "no more mutants," taking control of the Human Torch and Mister Fantastic in an effort to once again kill Franklin. If Onslaught appears in Deadpool 3, it's possible that the Phase 6 film could mark the MCU debuts of the Fantastic Four ahead of their epic solo adventure in February 2025. This would not only boost excitement for Fantastic Four but also add more credibility and gravitas to Deadpool 3 for Ryan Reynolds' first official MCU story.
