An exciting Deadpool & Wolverine theory presents the perfect path for the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to use Logan but not mess with the Fox movie's ending. Marvel Studios finally has the rights to develop projects for the X-Men and other characters thanks to the Fox-Disney merger. Deadpool & Wolverine's multiversal adventure will mark the first time that Marvel releases a movie whose lead character came from Fox. Joining Ryan Reynolds in the new movie is Deadpool & Wolverine's star-studded ensemble, which will see many returns of actors from Fox's X-Men franchise.
The biggest of those returns is undoubtedly Hugh Jackman coming back as Wolverine. The 2024 MCU movie has been described as a two-hander, with equal focus on Deadpool and Wolverine, as the film's title makes clear. There has been a lot of speculation about how Jackman's Wolverine will appear in the film. The character's last appearance was in 2017's Logan, where an older version of Wolverine died at the movie's ending. While Reynolds and Jackman promised Logan's ending would not be changed, a Deadpool & Wolverine theory explains how the Fox film could impact the MCU movie.

Deadpool & Wolverine Trailer Scenes Explained The new Deadpool & Wolverine trailer showed a lot more of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, teasing where he comes from and what is the state of his universe. Deadpool & Wolverine Theory Claims Hugh Jackman Comes From Logan With A Twist Wolverine Could Be A Logan Variant Close For years, it was thought that Logan would be Jackman's final time as Wolverine. It was fitting that after playing the character in several films since his debut in 2000's X-Men, Wolverine would die for someone he loved in Logan. After Deadpool & Wolverine's first trailer teased Jackman's return as Wolverine, the movie's second trailer went more in-depth on the character's role in the film. Based on dialogue and scenes from the movie, a theory connecting the MCU flick and Logan has emerged. According to the MCU theory, Wolverine would come from earlier in Logan's timeline, before his death.

Later, it is revealed that this version of Wolverine failed his world, with what appears to be a quick flashback of Logan in an ominous location as he falls to his knees. According to the MCU theory, this Wolverine could come from an earlier point in the Logan timeline, right after the event where Charles Xavier accidentally killed the X-Men, and Logan did not stop him. This way, the movie uses Logan without resurrecting Wolverine.
Logan's comic book-accurate costume in Deadpool & Wolverine could be explained through this, as the character was wearing a version of his X-Men suit in comics shown in Logan. The bartender's comment also suggests that Logan's universe might not have been destroyed.
Logan Never Showed The Death Of The X-Men Deadpool & Wolverine Could Finally Do It Close 2017's Logan slowly revealed details about the X-Men's fate but never showed their deaths. The movie was loosely based on the Marvel comic book "Old Man Logan." In the comics, it was Wolverine who killed the X-Men. Logan viciously murdered his friends after being fooled by the Spider-Man villain Mysterio, who used his illusions to make Wolverine believe that he was fighting intruders at the X-Mansion. Logan took a different approach, with an aging Professor X being responsible for the death of the X-Men instead of Wolverine.
As he aged, Charles Xavier's mind became volatile, and in a psychic outburst like was shown in Logan, Charles killed several X-Men. Despite revealing that Charles was responsible for the incident and the character even remembering what he had done just before his death, Logan never showed the death of the X-Men onscreen. Thanks to his healing factor, Wolverine can somewhat resist the pain of Xavier's outbursts. That would have allowed him the time to save the X-Men, which he did not do, resulting in the Logan seen in Deadpool & Wolverine. The movie could show how the X-Men died.
How Deadpool & Wolverine Would Avoid Breaking Its Actors’ Promise Logan Would Not Be Resurrected Close Before any footage of the movie was revealed, a promise was made that the MCU film would not mess with the ending of Fox's Logan. That promise came in a video with Reynolds and Jackman, and while the MCU theory suggests the movie could be revisiting the world from the Fox movie, it would keep the promise intact, as Deadpool & Wolverine using a version of Jackman's character from the same universe, but before the events of Logan, would not ruin the film's epic finale.
It is understandable that Jackman and so many fans are protective of Logan's ending. The movie had the perfect conclusion to Jackman's journey as the character, with Wolverine's sacrifice and X-23 turning the cross on his grave into an "X" to represent the X-Men being extremely emotional. Resurrecting Wolverine, like many thought would be the case if he ever came back, would undercut the emotion of the moment. The Deadpool & Wolverine theory presents the perfect way for how the MCU could use Logan while keeping its beloved ending as special as it was meant to be.
