Anticipation has been building for Sasha Calle's debut as Supergirl with every new bit of footage released from The Flash, and it is now possible to paint a picture of how this new version of the DC Comics hero will play out in the film. The Flash stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash, with the movie being the first solo entry for the speedster in movie history. The Flash's story focuses on the ramifications of Barry's decision to go back in time to stop his mother from dying. In doing so, The Flash will break the future and go on a multiverse-wide adventure.
The Flash's exploration of the multiverse, a theme that is at the height of popularity right now in superhero projects, is what will allow the speedster to come face-to-face with a wide array of new and returning DC characters. The Flash's cast includes multiple Batman actors — with Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton reprising their versions of the Dark Knight — as well as the return of Man of Steel's Michael Shannon as General Zod and the debut of Calle's Supergirl. More surprises are said to be in store when The Flash debuts, with the multiverse allowing for exciting DC character cameos. Being the newcomer, Calle's Supergirl debut is highly-anticipated.
The Flash Movie's Supergirl Origins Explained Calle's Supergirl will be in a tough spot when she is first seen in The Flash. As revealed by The Flash's first trailer, Supergirl will begin the movie as a prisoner in what appears to be a Russian facility. Later shots of the trailer revealed that the hero's location was likely somewhere in Siberia. Calle plays "Kara" in the movie, a version of DC Comics' Supergirl known as Kara Zor-El/ Kara Danvers. However, the actress will not be adapting a usual Supergirl storyline in The Flash but rather taking over the role Superman had in the comic book story that serves as the base for the movie.
The Flash is doing a version of the comic book event Flashpoint. The iconic comic book story saw Barry Allen go back in time to stop his mother from being murdered by the Reverse-Flash, successfully doing so but altering the DC universe for the worse. The Flash movie will touch on key elements from that story while allowing the film to deviate and explore new ground. One of those deviations includes Calle's Supergirl taking over the role that belonged to Superman in the comics, as well as Keaton's Bruce Wayne being the multiverse Batman, rather than the comics' use of Thomas Wayne, Bruce's father.
How Sasha Calle's Supergirl Fits Into The Flash Movie's Story In the comics, the government held Flashpoint Superman captive for years, being experimented on by scientists in what was called "Project Superman." The Flash is giving that role to Calle's Supergirl, although it appears like the movie decided to change the Kryptonian's place of imprisonment from a US government facility to a Russian military compound. It remains to be seen how that decision might affect Supergirl's version of the comics' Flashpoint storyline, although the biggest story beats from Superman in the event appear to be somewhat intact in The Flash.
The Flash's trailers have revealed that Miller's Barry Allen going back to the past to save his mother will create a ripple effect that will change the future, creating a world without metahumans to defend it. That points to the importance of Calle's Supergirl, as The Flash bands together with Keaton's multiverse Batman to break the young Kryptonian out of her prison. The reason for that is that Supergirl is the only one who can stop General Zod from succeeding with his Man of Steel plan in the movie.
Sasha Calle's Supergirl Comics Differences Explained The Flash brings in a different version of Supergirl than the one seen in recent comics and played by Melissa Benoist in Supergirl. While Supergirl has known loss, being one of the few survivors of Krypton, she did arrive on Earth to find a loving family in Jeremiah and Eliza Danvers. The Flash is not going that way, with Calle's Supergirl taking over the dark story Superman has in Flashpoint. Supergirl will have gone through a lonely childhood, having been found by the government and put through painful experiments over the years, cut off from the sunlight that gives her powers.
Everything We Know About Supergirl's Powers The Flash's trailers have shown that once Batman and The Flash appear to break Supergirl out of the military facility, the hero will show the full length of her powers after coming in contact with the sun. Supergirl appears to have the same powers that Cavill's Superman has displayed in the DCEU, which include super-strength, the ability to fly, heat vision, and more. While Kara possesses the same powers as Superman, she is sometimes an even greater danger to villains than the Man of Steel in the comics due to Supergirl's lower level of restraint when fighting. The Flash's trailers show Calle's Supergirl going all out against Zod.
