Paolo PORTOGHESI - (1974) - SACRED FAMILY Church (SALERNO - Italy)

The church, which belongs to the parish of St. Maria dei Barbuti, is called the Sacred Family Church too, and it"s served by the Christian Doctrine Fathers. The project was the first religious building constructed in concrete after the liturgical reform of 2nd Vatican Council. A "Hidden Treasure" that may seem disconcerting for its originality and novelty. The circle is the inspiring element of the entire work, in fact the church is composed of six structurally centers contained in concentric circles, which intersect like the circles in the water of a pond for the fall of the handful of stones. The growth and regression of the circular domes attributed to the space, conceived as internal to a living organism, the properties of a slow, deep breaths, giving the feeling of a "button space" has a life of its own. Born from the idea of the architect Paolo Portoghesi and the engineer Vittorio Gigliotti was opened for worship in June 1974. The brass works are from the artist Sinisca (the artist originally from Salerno Mimmo Siniscalco).
