Several theories have created huge connections between the MCU's new big villain, Kang the Conqueror, and the wider world of Marvel Studios' franchise. In the wake of Thanos' defeat in Avengers: Endgame, the MCU needed a new major supervillain to take his place, and Kang the Conqueror was the perfect fit for the MCU's Multiverse Saga. Debuting as He Who Remains in Loki, Jonathan Majors soon took on the role of Kang the Conqueror himself in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and also brought a variety of other variants to life. As the villain's story continues to develop, many theories have arisen concerning Kang's existence in the MCU.
In Marvel Comics, Kang is depicted as a 31st Century scientist and the descendent of the time-traveling Nathaniel Richards (Reed Richards' father). Using Richards' technology, Kang journeys throughout history, taking on many names and guises and creating a plethora of variants, eventually comprising the Council of Kangs along the way, most of which aim to conquer the universe and destroy the Avengers. Since this backstory hasn't really been explored yet in the MCU, and no concrete answers have been given for Kang's evil intentions, some genius fan theories have been posed that could flesh out Kang the Conqueror's character and connect him to age-old MCU stories.
10 Kang The Conqueror Is Using Celestial Technology Prior to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's release, the film's trailers sparked a discussion about the MCU's Kang the Conqueror. One theory posed by Reddit user mendedpieces suggested that Kang's technology in trailers for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was reminiscent of the technology used by the Celestials in the MCU, specifically that seen in the World Forge in Eternals. Kang's travels imply he must have come into contact with a Celestial or two, and more speculation suggests the Celestials even sided with Kang in the first multiversal war. Kang using Celestial technology could pose a huge threat to the MCU, as Eternals' antagonists may actually be Kang's allies.
9 Harley Keener Is A Variant Of Kang The Conqueror Perhaps one of the most popular theories concerning Kang's connection to previous MCU projects suggests that Iron Man 3's Harley Keener is a Kang variant. In Marvel Comics, a young variant of Kang, still named Nathaniel Richards, forms the Young Avengers and becomes the superhero known as Iron Lad. Ty Simpkins reprised the role of Harley Keener at Tony Stark's funeral in Avengers: Endgame, leading many to speculate that he would have a larger role in the MCU going forward. Variations of this theory also suggest that Keener could battle against Earth's Mightiest Heroes, seeking revenge for his fallen mentor and leading to him eventually becoming Kang the Conqueror.
8 Kang The Conqueror Is A Descendant Of T'Challa Marvel Comics depicts Kang the Conqueror as a distant relative of Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mister Fantastic of the Fantastic Four. However, one theory posted on Twitter suggests that the MCU's Kang could be descended from T'Challa, a.k.a. Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever revealed that T'Challa had succumbed to an undisclosed illness but also debuted his secret son, Toussaint, in the film's post-credits scene. Wakanda's technological advancements have been a huge talking point in the MCU, which could explain Kang's access to superior tech, and since T'Challa and Kang are both powerful leaders, this theory isn't outside the realm of possibility.
7 Avengers: Secret Wars Will Debut God Emperor Kang Marvel Studios' Avengers: Secret Wars is set to conclude the MCU's Phase 6 and the Multiverse Saga, taking inspiration from Marvel Comics' Secret Wars events. In the 2015 comic storyline, Doctor Doom dubs himself God Emperor Doom on Battleworld, a world created from the fragments of destroyed realities, but one theory implies that Kang the Conqueror will become God Emperor in Avengers: Secret Wars. This storyline would give Marvel Studios the opportunity to introduce Doctor Doom, a major Fantastic Four villain, to the MCU much more gradually, and could also be the best way to end Kang's Multiverse Saga story with a bang.
6 Kang The Conqueror Is The Hero Of The MCU's Multiverse Saga Kang the Conqueror has been set up to be the major antagonist of the MCU's Multiverse Saga, already having plagued two projects and set to appear in several more before the climactic Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. However, one theory flips the script, posing the idea that Kang is actually the hero, setting out to save the cosmos from the Multiverse Saga's true villain, Doctor Strange. Doctor Strange has been teased as a major player in the Multiverse Saga, and his sometimes morally-questionable actions, and Kang's claims of saving the multiverse, could suggest the pair will come to blows - though perhaps Kang will be seen as the hero.
5 Kang Will Become The Beyonder In Avengers: Secret Wars If Marvel Studios' Avengers: Secret Wars takes inspiration from Marvel Comics' 1984 Secret Wars event, the possibility is there for the Beyonder to be introduced, and one theory suggests that Kang could fill this epic role. One of Marvel's strangest characters, the Beyonder was the mastermind of Secret Wars, plucking heroes and villains from their timelines to battle in a huge crossover story. The Beyonder would be a huge character for Marvel Studios to introduce on such short notice, but Kang the Conqueror's ambiguous fate at the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania creates the perfect opportunity for the villain to transform into this even more formidable foe.
4 Kang The Conqueror Defeated Captain America, Not Thor Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania debuted Kang the Conqueror in the MCU with some terrifying revelations, including revealing that the villain had killed many Avengers throughout various timelines. Kang mentions he previously killed "the one with the hammer," implying that he defeated a variant of Thor during his conquest. However, one major theory speculates that Kang could have been referring to Steve Rogers' Captain America, since the patriotic Avenger wielded Thor's hammer, Mjolnir, during Avengers: Endgame. The idea of Captain America being killed by Kang is no more harrowing than Thor being taken down but provides a sobering reality that Avengers are nothing but playthings for Kang the Conqueror.
3 Kang The Conqueror Created Shang-Chi's Ten Rings Upon the release of trailers for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, many picked up on visual similarities between Kang's Quantum Realm technology and a variety of other MCU artifacts, including Shang-Chi's Ten Rings and Kamala Khan's bangle. This led to much speculation that Kang the Conqueror had created these relics as part of a grand scheme, potentially one that will come to fruition in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' mid-credits scene confirmed that the Ten Rings were sending a beacon across the cosmos to an unknown recipient, so if this is Kang, Shang-Chi could have a major role in the MCU's Phase 6.
2 Thanos Was Defeated In Avengers: Endgame Because Of Kang When the Time Variance Authority (TVA) was introduced during Loki season 1, many questions arose about why the organization didn't get involved in the time-traveling events of Avengers: Endgame. One theory suggests that the Avengers' Time Heist was part of Kang's plan. Loki revealed He Who Remains, a variant of Kang, as the man behind the TVA, and the theory poses that He Who Remains wanted the Avengers to succeed in defeating Thanos to prove their strength for the coming multiversal war. For this reason, the TVA allowed the Avengers to meddle with time, preparing for the events of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.
1 A Kang Variant Wrote The Darkhold (& Corrupted The Scarlet Witch) Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness confirmed that Chthon was the author of the Darkhold spells on the walls of Mount Wundagore, but it left the transcriber of these spells - the true author of the Darkhold - unknown. One major theory (via Cinemablend) suggests that Kang or one of his variants could have transcribed the spells and created the Darkhold, the Book of the Damned. This would suggest that Kang the Conqueror has knowledge of the Scarlet Witch's importance, perhaps motivating him to use her in his plan - which could see her return in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty following her apparent death in the MCU's Phase 4.
